With this hot australian summer, it was time we go underground again, so i lead a small group from the OAC into the Bungonia Caves. Of course, the trip was supposed to be easy and more like an introduction to Caving, but due to the late addition of a well experienced caver (Martin), we decided to do the two easy caves back to back on Saturday and then do a more technical cave on Sunday.
The first two caves were very much what we did last year (and hence less pics) only difference is that this time we had double the number of people. Good intro most most who haven't done this before, but little did they know what was still to come.
Sunday saw us abseil approx 40m into a cave and experience something more like what rocks do in a crusher. After the abseil we started our climb thru The Dragon's Teeth - oh yeah, the name says it all. There was an exposed climb which was followed by another squizzy climb, and then pretty much followed by the ladder up. 15' and 13' ladders were installed at the exit (by martin and steffy), so we didn't end up staying in the cave. It was awesome for most, but it took most of Katya's energy and def got her arms worked out. it must be pointed out that it was her first time using this type of ladders though.
An awesome weekened with a bit more techincal caving than expected, but def enjoyable.
Enjoy! FJS
